The view that tells you what to do

Hike the hills, sail the waters, canoe, climb. More mild than wild? Try golf, Theatre by the Lake or a tour of the Jennings Brewery.

On and around the Lakes

Keswick is a short drive from Derwentwater House, a 20 minute walk or a quick ride on the launch.

Keswick is packed with shops, boutiques, pubs, cafes and restaurants. It’s a short walk to the Theatre by the Lake and banks of Derwentwater, just south of the town. Or carry on around the lake on the launch – a 50 minute cruise. There are seven landing stages for you to explore the lakeside.

Keswick is the UK’s Adventure Capital – and the North Lakes are well known for their breathtaking views and fantastic outdoor activities – from the gentle to the extreme. Don’t miss Ashness Bridge, an excellent example of a packhorse bridge, with one of the Lake District’s most famous views looking north to Derwentwater, Whinlatter and Skiddaw.

It’s on the way to Honister Slate Mine, where you can test your climbing skills on the Via Ferrata. Climb to the top of Fleetwith Pike, safely attached to a steel cable so almost anyone can enjoy this.

You can do some wonderful walks straight from the house. Jump in the car and head off on the most scenic tours you can imagine. Go mountain biking in Whinlatter forest. Or make the most of being lake side and get out on the water. Kayaking, sailing and canoeing are all available from the marina a few hundred yards from the house and are the perfect way to enjoy the Lake District.
