Soak up Bath’s Georgian elegance

There’s something in the water in Bath, and Admiral’s Mansion puts you right in the heart and the heat of the thermal-powered action. Soak up the Georgian elegance, luxuriate in the rooftop pool at Thermae Bath Spa as the steam swirls, or taste the water as you walk in the footsteps of ancient ancestors at the Roman Baths.

Friends and hens can stay here in historic Bath and enter a world of timeless elegance, where the soul soars at the sight of the lights around the Pulteney Bridge, the Ionic columns of the Royal Crescent, and the Gothic beauty of Bath Abbey. After feeding your soul, sate your hunger in multi-awarded restaurants such as The Olive Tree.

Admiral’s Mansion sleeps 14 in seven bedrooms, a stylish addition to this World Heritage city and built for the wealthy looking to take the waters. That smack of solid luxury remains, in chandeliers, cornicing and elegant dressing. But Georgian splendour needn’t mean modern deprivation: witness the high-speed BT wifi and cable TV.

Fight over the chaise longue in the portrait-rich lounge. Retreat to the stately quiet of the reading room. Cook on the Aga and eat around the dining table watched by curious forebears. Or take the short walk to the lights, sights, bars and bites. Admiral’s Mansion is as much a part of your Bath experience as the spa waters and the stone.

Living spaces

From the Downton Abbey doorbell to the dripping chandeliers, this is period living on a grand scale, where wealthy doctors and barristers once came to rest, recuperate and take the healing waters. The period touches remain, yet today’s Admiral’s Mansion adds modern conveniences denied to the Georgians, such as fast wifi and cable TV.

The main living room’s decked and dotted with the faces of ancestors gazing at you between the cornicing and the dado rail. The rug and chairs have a classical cosiness and the chandelier adds a little class: pour a coffee from the cafetiere, put your feet up and flop in front of a film or the footy.

Reading room, study, games room – call it what you will. For those looking to escape the madding crowd, this is a delightful cosier option that comes bursting with books, leather chairs and heavy curtains. Grab a classic from the shelves or just chill out with headphones and a happy smile.

Admiral’s Mansion is more than a base from which to bend beautiful Bath to your whim. It’s an event in itself, a chance to knock the rough edges off life for a while, among the chandeliers and the cornicing. Bring your books, your bonhomie and your besties, and chillax in your very own city townhouse. Admiral’s Mansion is a Regency riot.

Cooking and dining

Fire up the two fan-assisted ovens or make it an Aga saga and heat the house while you fill the pot with produce from Avellino’s deli. Move into the 12-seater dining room to break the bread and pass the wine beneath the chandelier in front of the approving faces in the portraits.

It’s a fully equipped kitchen that includes fridge, microwave, toaster and cafetiere. For al-fresco dining, you’ll find a table and chairs out on the terrace with the hum of Bath city life a delightful babbling backdrop. After your tiramisu, loosen your belts, pour the coffee and retire to the living spaces for a snooze.

Fancy a night off? Call the shots and call up our chefs for everything from a one-off celebration to a fully catered break. Want to stetch your legs? You’ll barely have to move to dip into the array of bistros and gastros that season Bath city centre. Pubs, too. Get snug in The Salamander or tuck into good pub grub in The King of Wessex.

Want to go posh? Go all out in the Michelin-starred Olive Tree and tickle your tastebuds with the six- or nine-course taster menus. Try Clayton’s Kitchen for seasonal British fine dining and drinking in a four-storey Georgian townhouse. Or if you love champagne and cheese, it has to be Comptoir and Cuisine.
