Sand, surf and hot-tub bubbles

Colourful and contemporary and hovering above the sand and surf of family-friendly Newquay, Quint 17 offers state-of-the-art facilities. Cook for England in the huge kitchen, play pool in the games room, get a movie going in the cinema room. Eat al-fresco, tuck into the free wifi and jump into the hot-tub bubbles.

On the edge of the action

With enough space to sleep two cricket teams and enough fun to knock you all for six, Quint 17 sits on the edge of England and at the cutting-edge of stylish living. It’s a mecca for family fun within a seasplash of Newquay’s sunkissed beaches.

Eight modern bedrooms, complete with crisp linen, rolltop baths and power showers, supply the energy to keep you sandcastling and surfing. When your batteries are depleted, repair with popcorn to the giant-screen movie room. No rustling of sweet wrappers, mind.

There’s more downtime in the games room. Step up to the oche and aim for 180 or cue off for an eight-ball on the pool table. As the sun dips in the West, eat al fresco in the outdoor seating area, then dive into the hot-tub bubbles for cocktails and tales of the day’s adventures.

Eat in, eat out. The kitchen’s the size and shape of an offshore sub. All chip in and we’ll cater for you, or you can muck in and have a go yourself. As dusk falls, some of Rick Stein’s seared scallops would go down well.

Living Spaces and Dining

There’s room here to pile onto squishy sofas, fire up the wall TV and catch a movie or a match. If you need a subs’ bench, the footstool cubes will do just fine. There’s space at Quint 17 to muck in and be a part of things, but plenty of spaces to escape alone or in groups. The prospect of an eight-ball on the pool table should keep the competitive happy.

The cinema room’s the place to down tools and chill over a bag of boiled sweets and a beverage or two. With a monster screen and authentic cinema seats, we’ve got all the magic of the movies without leaving the house. Dim the lights, break out the popcorn and roll the projector. Well, Blu-Ray.

When you hear the call of the gulls and taste the salt in the air, you might simply want to stock up on steaks and hit the sitting area and hot tub outside. But if you fancy paying homage to local lad Rick Stein’s seared scallops or shellfish soup, the kitchen’s bright, breezy and big as an Atlantic submarine. If that’s just not you, let it be us. Call up our chefs and we’ll whistle up a Waldorf salad or a winter warmer.

Need a take-away, a night out or a pub meal? Newquay is alive with culinary options, from gastro pubs to bistros to Indians and Chinese, and piratical pubs thrown in. Or maybe just cheery fish and chips on the harbour wall. For finer dining, Padstow’s just 22 minutes by car. Get on the A roads for A-rated menus, Michelin-starred menus at Paul Ainsworth at Number 6 and fillet of pollock or Cornish lamb at Rick Stein’s.

Bedrooms

Nothing revives you after a day’s surfing, canoeing or coasteering like soft sheets and a window open to the crash of the waves and the call of the gulls.

Quint 17 has beds enough for a couple of cricket teams. They’re slick and modern, with lights that hang low, deep duvets and desks for pulling out your laptop and diving into the wifi.

You’ve eight bedrooms to squabble over: four doubles, two twins and two bunk rooms. Whichever you choose, you’ll enjoy power showers or rolltop baths in four sumptuous bathrooms.

Sand, surf and seahorses

Newquay is all surf and sand. Ride the breaking waves at Fistral Beach, or kite-surf, scuba-dive, canoe or coasteer your way around Cornwall’s wet and wild North coast. Ride the zips at Lusty Glaze, watch out for dolphins, swim in Blue-Flagged waters, or meet the sharks and seahorses at the Blue Reef.
