Boot camps and buggy rides are yours without leaving the grounds. Elsewhere, there’s the sand and shingle of the blustery coast, theme parks and theatre, science centres and steam railways, boat trips and burial mounds. On site or off-site, Suffolk is activity central.
On the estate
Wilderness is teeming with a safari of life. Listen for the boom of the bittern and the beating of dragonfly wings. Watch otters and American mink along the riverbanks, deer in the mists and snakes in the grasses. Take a Morning Chorus birdsong tour.
Put your foot on the gas with some off-road buggy action, shoot clay from the skies, row the lakes and rivers in canoes or boats. Get put through your paces on boot camps and personal training sessions or wind right down with a soothing spa treatment.
Country kids
If the grounds aren’t adventure enough, the sand and shingle, buckets and spades, and crabbing and shrimping of the Suffolk coast should do the trick. Book a boat trip, climb the cliffs, explore the rockpools.
See everything from buffalos to barbary sheep at Africa Alive, ride the rollercoasters at Pleasurewood Hills, see pigs and ponies at Pets Corner in Lowestoft. Swim outdoors in heated waters at Beccles, glide down the pistes at Suffolk Ski Centre, or Go Ape at Thetford.
Take a tram ride back through history and walk the period streets at East Anglia Transport Museum, follow the mystery trail around Aldeburgh, or paint some pots at the Wild Raspberry Ceramic Café.
Build a body at The Science Project Discover Centre, then scare your pants off at the ancient burial mounds at Sutton Hoo. For kids, Suffolk is both fun and funky.

Try birdwatching for beginners and see the rutting stags at Minsmere Nature Reserve. Go coasteering or crabbing, cruise the River Waveney, or Go Ape at Thetford.
Wax your moustache, put the top down and potter the Suffolk country lanes in a classic car with Open Top Touring, ride the Middy – the standard-gauge Mid-Suffolk Steam Railway – or see a serious moat and maze at Helmingham Hall. For dancing and dining, bistros and gastros, Norwich is just an hour away.
