Chilled? You might never warm up

Key West Cottage is your bright, modern, colourful, Insta-ready Somerset holiday home. Bust the rural hush with family, friends, hens or dogs. Walk the quiet lanes, catch a film in the movie room, stare at the stars from the hot tub, play a little pool in the games room. Chilled? You might never warm up.

Keira Knightley in odd socks

In a place where time stands still, where a heavy hush blankets the Somerset Levels, sits Key West Cottage. Bring your family, bring your friends, bring your hens, bring your dogs. You’re going to need all the help you can get to break a rural silence as quiet as this. Stressed? You won’t be.

Sleeping 16, Key West Cottage is bright, modern, colourful, pretty. It’s a place of infinite happiness nestled in the shadow of the Quantocks. If it were human, it’d be Keira Knightley in odd socks. This is an Instagram-ready holiday home. But it’s also bursting with fun: there are toys at every turn.

The garden’s summer-ready, awash with colourful beanbags, sun loungers and outdoor furniture that awaits the chink of your champagne flutes. When you’re done lounging and lazing, lounge and laze some more in the six-seater hot tub. You’ll find we’ve laid on some impressive stars in Somerset’s dark skies.

Inside, the Pineapple Bar comes with Playstation, pool table, bar and 49” TV. Hang out on the funky bean bags. Then head to the movie room with 90” projector to dip into a full Sky menu. Tap into the BT wifi. Watch the 70” Sky TV as you rustle up your roast in the kitchen. Walk the dogs down the country lanes. Chilled? You might never warm up.

Gardens and grounds

At Key West you have a garden choc-full of fun. The loungers face the sun and the fun and funky beanbags suggest book or iPad time. There’s champagne on the table, the flutes are ready to fill with fizz and there’s enough seating for drinks, dinner and a large dose of banter.

When the stars come out, whip the lid off the six-seat hot tub, soak yourself silly, and stare at the luminous balls of gas that fizz and flash across the dark skies.

Living spaces

Key West Cottage is a contemporary classic, dressed to the nines in bright, modern furniture. This is a holiday home that wakes up with a smile, has a ball all day and hits the sack none the sadder. It’s fun, funky, bright and uplifting. Get your camera ready and Instagram the heck out of the place.

Key West is open-plan and open to suggestions. The large living room opens out onto the kitchen, giving loads of scope for socialising as you stir and stew your supper. After a day walking the canals or yomping the hills, get together here at night for chats, games and laughs, with dogs at your feet.

There’s fun aplenty in the rest of the house. Kick off your evening in the Pineapple Bar. This is the space that invented ‘hanging out’. Dotted with bright, breezy beanbags and boasting an actual bar, this is the place to keep your glasses topped up as you go potty over the American pool table. Or watch the day disappear on the Playstation console.

Key West is spot-on for tech as well. Superfast BT broadband fizzes around the place: stream, download and surf all you like. Or maybe you’ll grab your popcorn and head to the movie room, home of a 90” projector screen and library of Sky movies. There’s a lot of Somerset to explore out there, but we’ll forgive you for excessive indoor chilling.

Cooking and dining

Let’s start with the pool table. No, really. In just the work of a moment, you can convert your games table to an eight-seater dining table. Handy for kids (or big kids) not wanting to parted from their potting for too long. The more sociable can gather around the 14-seat dining table with the playstuff and TV at one end for restless toddlers.

Plenty of help here if you want to be all self-sufficient. The sociable open-plan kitchen offers an electric hob, a microwave and a large electric oven. You’ll even find a small electric hob in the Pineapple Bar. (Be prepared for members of your party disappearing for days.)

Eating out? You could start in the garden among the bright and breezy beanbags and the Somerset sunshine. The table and chairs are ready and there’s a nice dessert in the shape of the six-seat hot tub. Bring some coal for the barbie. Wrap up with coffee from the cafetieres.

For a scrumptious breakfast, light lunch or just a afternoon tea, why not try the award winning Living Pretty teashop. For a night off, head out to The Firehouse for fresh, seasonal gastro dishes, pub classics and stone fire pizza all produced in-house. It’s a similar story at The Barrington Boar. Eat fresh, then enjoy a pint by the fire or coffee and cake in the garden. For award-winning dining, The Langford in Taunton offers a slow-cooked slice of heaven.
