The Deep sounds like a scary movie. It is, but it’s also the name of an amazing aquarium in Hull that’s home to over 5000 animals. Meet magnificent sharks and rays, green sawfish, gentoo penguins and loggerhead turtles. Walk through the viewing tunnel and finish with a ride in the glass lift through the ten-metre Endless Ocean tank.

Stay in town to pop in to the Hull and East Riding Museum of Archaeology, which brings 235 million years of history to life, from mammoths to Saxon invaders and a walk through an Iron Age village. Or come right up to date with a trip to Beverley Parkway Cinema, showing latest releases and older classics.

Brave stomach-churning rides at Flamingoland Resort, as well as an award-winning zoo, shows, animal experiences, and all manner of cafes and grills. Say hi to furry and feathered friends at Bridlington Animal Park. Or ride 24 miles of Yorkshire’s glorious scenery on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, including a 1930s-themed station.

Head to wild and rugged Flamborough Head to spot puffins and seals, hike along windswept paths, sea-canoe around the bay, then take in the sea views at the top of the lighthouse. Or cross the 1.38-mile Humber Bridge into Lincolnshire, once the world’s longest suspension bridge of its type.

Head to Go Ape Pickering in Dalby Forest for high ropes with exhilarating zip lines. Play Driffield Golf Club, a beautiful parkland estate with native trees, ponds, a trout stream and several water hazards. Hire bikes from Switchback Cycles in Hornsea. Or walk Driffield and the Wolds from the doorstep.

Discover Sewerby Hall and Gardens, set dramatically on a clifftop with spectacular views over Bridlington, with 50 acres of early 19th-century parkland, magnificent gardens and zoo. Take a helicopter ride from Beverley Airfield and find out if you’re brave enough to take the co-pilot’s seat. Or ride Segway in Dalby Forest.

Sink into a world of relaxation with a range of indulgent spa packages and beauty treatments at Sessions House. See one of the world’s most magnificent cathedrals at York Minster. There’s plenty on site to make your hen occasion go with added cluck, from the five-girl hot tub under the stars to the lovely garden seating out among the carp in the 26 acres West End Farm pinches from the Wolds. You’ve even got an 80” TV equipped with Netflix and Amazon Prime and a huge U-shaped sofa. Just add prosecco and popcorn.

Or vulture some culture on a tour of York Minster or beautiful, medieval Beverley Minster.
